Hybrid Boats for the luxury market
Herley Boats is a designer and manufacturer of premium aluminium powerboats based in Tauranga, New Zealand.
One of New Zealand’s few premium aluminium boat builders offering unique solutions in power, performance, safety, comfort and the only local boatbuilder offering Hybrid diesel-electric power plants. They offer customised designs and builds for powerboats and catamarans, from 22 to 60 feet, for the luxury market.
Their vessels are designed from the hull upwards, offering a superior ride and stability at rest while not compromising on luxury. They lead the way with their innovative design and build methods and hybrid diesel-electric power plants.
After years of frustration buying, building and using boats that had the final finishing details missing – like cheap quality materials, water pooling and awkward helm positions, the team at Herley Boats decided to design and build their own.
Nick Herd, Director of Herley boats, began his career as a boatbuilder. And from there moved to marine design, production and project management at some major trailer boat builders and shipyards around New Zealand. His ground-up level of experience has led to the design and production of the high-end vessels offered by Herley Boats.
Tavolo provides a hygienic high-end finish for surfaces
Herley Boats needed a high-end finish for its interior galley, benchtops, tabletops, head and shower surfaces, and some exterior benchtops and surfaces onboard the Herley Powercat 3400 – New Zealand’s first locally produced diesel-electric hybrid catamaran.
The large family cruiser, which features two queen beds, a full galley, a separate shower and head, and a large open area cockpit, was designed for long, open-water trips in style and comfort.
They needed a surface that met the high-end aesthetic of the boat, was mould and mildew resistant, UV stable, and could withstand the harsh sun and salt-laden marine environment without degrading or delaminating.
Tavolo surface of choice
Tavolo premium acrylic solid surface in 12mm, met the aesthetic and practical requirements for this luxury boat manufacturer. Tavolo Coronet, a fresh, cool white, complemented the interior woodwork and was used for the galley to create seamless, hygienic interior and exterior benchtops, tabletops and surfaces. And to provide hygienic, easy to clean head and shower surfaces.
The exterior Tavolo benchtop with stainless steel sink was designed as an easy to clean, hygienic outdoor galley and bar for serving and entertaining guests.
The ability to easily machine to the client’s exacting requirements meant surfaces were templated and shaped to fit, with raised edges and soft rounded corners – essential for safety in a moving vessel.
Its inconspicuous join seams meant a visually seamless finish and optimised the materials required for the project.
The UV stable and solid surface qualities of Tavolo make it ideal for boat surfaces. With a high-end aesthetic, mould and mildew resistant qualities, and UV stability, it can withstand the harsh sun and salt-laden marine environment without degrading or delaminating.
Tavolo can be repaired and refinished to ensure a long lifespan. Ideal for luxury boats like the Herley.
